Member Appreciation Day draws crowd, support from local businesses
Clay-Union Electric held its 16th Annual Member Appreciation Day on Feb. 8 with over 648 people served. The annual event features a free pancake and sausage breakfast, prepared and served by members of the Vermillion Lions Club, from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.

This annual event is one of the ways Clay-Union Electric shows its appreciation to cooperative members and the public for its support of cooperative services and programs.

Originally starting as a simple open house event for Clay-Union members, Member Appreciation Day has grown beyond an open house and a great pancake breakfast served by the Lions Club. It has now grown to include a mini home show that showcases about 17 area businesses displaying their products and services.

Banking services, realty organizations, insurance companies, heating and cooling dealers, plumbing companies, building suppliers and hardware products highlight some of the products and services that businesses showcase at the event. Products and service handouts from businesses and prize drawings add excitement to the event.

"The area business participation has become an integral part of what has made this event grow and be successful for Clay-Union Electric. Also, as a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, this event represents one of the events that reflect our commitment to community," said Manager Paul Roberts.

The following businesses participated in the Member Appreciation Day event: KVHT Radio, Kalins Indoor Comfort, Hammond Well Drilling, Meyer Heating and Cooling, First Dakota Bank, Steve's Comfort Systems, Coldwell Banker Realty, State Farm Insurance-Sunde, Ace Hardware, Tri-State Insulation, Paul's Plumbing, Sioux Valley Hospital, Bank of the West, Heartland Home Care, Midwest Homes, Pedersen Painting, Vermillion Credit Union, USDA-Rural Development and Clay-Union Electric.

All those attending the event had an opportunity to win prizes as many of these businesses conducted drawings for those who signed up at their booth.

New to the event this year, in addition to the mini home show and free pancakes, Clay-Union Electric sponsored its first food drive for the Vermillion Food Pantry. Many attendees brought canned goods or other supplies sought by the Vermillion Food Pantry to meet its growing need in the community.

With the event starting at 7 a.m. and lasting until early afternoon, many folks enjoyed the chance to sit and visit with friends or with the home show exhibitors over a second cup of coffee in a warm and friendly hometown environment.

Accord to Roberts, "As the thank-you letters go out to this year's participants, discussion is underway about next year. We also give a big thank you to all who participated or attended the event." Interested parties are encouraged to contact Clay-Union Electric as soon as the notice is published for the 2008 Member Appreciation Day.
