Fifty South Dakota high school seniors are recipients of distinguished Horatio Alger Association Scholarships and will receive $2,500 toward their higher education, thanks to the MidAmerican Energy Foundation.
The winning students demonstrated success by maintaining their grades; participating in extracurricular activities; and taking an interest in their community while overcoming difficult personal circumstances. The scholarships are made possible by the MidAmerican Energy Foundation, which has funded $125,000 in scholarships to assist South Dakota students in attaining a college education.
Winning students include Gabriel Steinmeyer, Vermillion, and Adam Polley, Wakonda. "We believe that students such as these, who have faced adversity in their lives but who also have proven that they can excel academically," said Todd Raba, president of Mid American Energy.
