Tanager boys win District 8A crown Wagner 33-23
In a superb team effort, the Vermillion Tanagers shot down the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 63-38 in boys' basketball March 5 at Elmen Center, Sioux Falls in the District 8A championship game.

"I was really pleased with our kids' effort tonight," said Vermillion coach Jason Huska. "We played hard and relaxed. We got good looks at the basket offensively and we made them shoot the ball from the outside. Our kids played unselfishly, and that's what makes us a better team. This was a good win for these kids."

The Tanagers jumped ahead 19-11 at the end of the first period, led 35-24 at halftime, and then held a lead of 50-34 after the third quarter.

Vermillion improved its record to 14-8, while EP-J dropped to 13-9.

Vermillion sank 6 of 19 three-point attempts and connected on 7 of 8 from the line. The Tanagers sank 25 of 43 field goals, while EP-J was 14 of 43 from the field. EP-J sank 3 of 21 three-point attempts and connected on 7 of 12 free throw attempts.
