USD men's golf team starts 2007 season with close loss
The University of South Dakota men's golf team opened up its 2007 spring campaign by falling to Minnesota State by just three strokes in a one-day dual competition on Sunday, 315-318.

Junior Ryan Bak (Beresford) earned medalist honors by shooting a one-over-par 73, besting MSU's Pete LaCoursiere and Jordon Docter by two strokes on the Metro West Country Club course. Freshman Brian Bye (Gayville) checked in with an 80 to tie for sixth place.

Freshman Mark Turner (Bowdle) tied for eighth by carding an 81, with sophomore Brett Bennett (Sioux Falls) posting an 84 to tie for 13th. Sophomore Matt Rantaapa (Lead) rounded out the Coyote team with an 85 which tied for 15th.


USD also had three individuals compete at the meet, with Jon Christensen taking 17th with an 86, and freshmen Matt Campbell (Aberdeen) and Tanner Waage (Groton) each tied for 18th with identical 87s.

The Coyotes will be off until Friday, March 30, when they begin play in the two-day Augustana Invitational in Sioux Falls.
