Through the book they present research-based ideas that preschool teachers, providers, and parents can use to help children meet standards through play and engaging projects. They use the South Dakota Early Learning Guidelines as models throughout the book and include ideas for working with children with special needs.
Gera Jacobs is a professor of early childhood education at USD and taught preschool, kindergarten, and the elementary grades for many years. She has published articles in a number of national and regional journals and has presented at numerous state, regional, and national conferences.

Gera is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Governing Board.
Kathy Crowley is a kindergarten teacher at St. Agnes School and has taught preschool, kindergarten, and the elementary grades. She is a member of several professional organizations and has presented at numerous national, state and regional conferences.
Kathy serves as vice president of the South Dakota Association for the Education of Young Children and received the SDAEYC state service award in 2006.
On Thursday, March 22, at 7 p.m., Kathy will be meeting with parents who are interested in sending their children to St. Agnes School next year. The meeting will be held in the St. Agnes kindergarten classroom at 909 E. Lewis. Children who will be attending kindergarten during the 2007-2008 school year are invited to spend the afternoon in the kindergarten classroom on Friday, March 23, from 1 to 3 p.m.
This will provide them with an opportunity to meet future classmates, enjoy fun activities, and get a glimpse of what the coming school year will be like as they transition into their kindergarten year. Parents who are interested in having their child attend should contact the school office at 624-4144.
