American Cancer Society Colleges Against Cancer is a new student organization at The University of South Dakota. Student and President of Colleges Against Cancer Ashlee Bauerly heard about the organization through the Activities Fair on the USD campus. She decided that this was something that everyone can relate to and wanted to bring the Colleges Against Cancer to USD.
"It would be a great way to bring people together from all walks of life, in order to help find a cure for something most people are touched with," Bauerly said. "If all of us work together, eventually a cure will be found," she stated.
"Relay for Life was something that came along with the job of Colleges Against Cancer," said Bauerly. Realizing what a tremendous undertaking Relay for Life would be, Bauerly began coordinating the event immediately. With Amber Johnson heading up the organization of the event, Bauerly realized the Relay for Life was headed in the right direction.
Even with fellow members of the CAC helping organize the Relay for Life and American Cancer Society Community Relations Coordinator Lindsey Holmquest acting as a consultant, there were enough responsibilities to go around. From inviting survivors to attend to team registration, from securing a location to securing sponsors, the students involved with coordinating the Relay for Life have their hands full. The CAC is proud to announce the first annual Relay for Life of Clay County and USD beginning at 6 p.m., April 13, at the high school track.
