South Dakota track and field squads claim six titles
The South Dakota men's and women's track and field squad claimed six titles at the Morningside Open, which was held on Saturday at Elwood Olsen Stadium in Sioux City, IA. Due to bad weather, the meet was shortened with several events canceled. The preliminaries finished in the men's and women's 100-meter dash and the women's 100-meter hurdles and men's 110-meter hurdles became the final results.

USD Women's Results:

USD's Amy Lindner (Sioux Falls) claimed the 1,500-meter run title with a clocking of 4:56.78. Also in the 1,500-meter run, Allison Duba of Sioux Falls was fifth in 5:05.14.


Andrene Miller (Manchester, Jamaica) was first in the women's long jump, going 16'11.75. Tia Haines (White Lake) was fourth at 16'03.25.

The Coyotes took the top two places in the women's 4×100-meter relay with the "A" team, running a 49.36 for first place and the "B" squad taking second in 50.95.

Heidi Muellenberg (Redfield) was second in the women's 100-meter dash with a 12.44. USD also finished 4-5-6 with Rosalie Brueske (Woonsocket), fourth, 12.92; Miller, fifth, 12.98; and Lauren Krell (Sioux Falls), sixth, 13.09. USD also had three of the top-five placers in the 100-meter hurdles with Lindsay House (Lennox), third, 15.10. Kiki Smith (Wahpeton, ND), fourth, 15.23; and Mara McGill (Beresford), fifth, 15.43.

In the women's pole vault, Katie Cerling (Plymouth, MN) was third at 8'06.

Men's Highlights:

USD's Scott Hargens (Sioux Falls) finished first in the men's 1,500-meter run in 4:01.65. In the same event, USD's Josh Jeffery (Spearfish) was third in 4:03.27 with Rob Gregoire (Wakonda), fifth, 4:11.92.

USD's Terry Liggins (Omaha, NE) won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.84 with Corey Gross (Brandon), sixth, 17.28.

The Coyote men's team also claimed the 4×100-meter relay title in 41.87.

Sean Fitzsimmons (Yankton) was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:59.32.

Bill Chromy (Linwood, NE) finished third in the men's javelin with a throw of 147'10.
