State orientation planned for May 6
The District 7 South Dakota American Legion Boys State and South Dakota American Legion Auxiliary Girls State orientation sessions will be held in the following locations on May 6.

Boys Staters and Girls Staters from Clay, Yankton, and Bon Homme counties will meet in Avon at the American Legion Hall.

Registration is at 1:30 p.m. with the sessions to start at 2 p.m.


The South Dakota American Legion Boys State is held in Aberdeen on the campus of Northern State University, from May 28 through June 2. This is the 65th session for Boys State at Northern State University.

The South Dakota American Legion Auxiliary Girls State is held in Vermillion on the campus of The University of South Dakota, from May 28 through June 2. this is the 61st session.

Boys Staters and Girls Staters are expected to attend their respective orientation sessions to learn what is expected of them as they attend Boys State and Girls State. Their parents should come to the orientation sessions as well, so they know what is going on and if they have any questions about the programs.

A bus is planned for the Boys Staters from District 7. Contact James Hornstra, Springfield, 605-369-5555, if you have any questions on the orientation sessions or bus. Contact your local American Legion Post to help you with arrangements for the bus, as seating is limited. A bus schedule will be supplied at the orientation sessions or from your local Legion Post.
