On March 27, the senior men golfers gathered for their first session of the year. Only 20 participants showed up on time to play at The Bluffs.
Factors that may have contributed to the low numbers might have included medical recovery for some, others were attending athletic events in the area, many of the "senior snow birds" have not migrated north from their winter habitats in the southern states and a number of our regular senior golfers were laid to rest this past winter including Howard Connors, Jack Stewart and Pete Berglund. We will miss you.
The winning team for this first event was composed of Ross King, Jerry Sommervold and Van Pierce at 36.
Three other teams all tied with 39s. But taking second by the tie breaker was Dave Bak, Elmer Mount and Joe Conroy. Coming in third was the team of Mo Marcotte, Tim O'Connor and Jim Grabowski; also part of the tie at fourth place was Turk Pilker, Max Anderson and Louie Fostvedt.
Winners in the two-man match play combinations were Ron Steckelberg and Guy Button plus the team of Alan Clem and Jim Reed.
In the long putt notes, Van Pierce made a 48-footer and Ross King dropped a 20-footer. Would you believe it? The team of Clem/Reed had a challenging three inch putt for birdie on hole 8. Yes, they made it.
The senior men golfers will continue to play Tuesday at 1 p.m. sharp. Call ahead if you think you may be coming late.
