In the opener, the Coyotes fell behind 2-0 after the first inning and 3-0 after three complete. Senior leftfielder Stephanie Bergman (Ithaca, NE) ended the Mustangs' shutout bid with a home run to lead off the top of the fifth inning, but that proved to be the final scoring in the game.
Sophomore pitcher Tagney Jones (Lincoln, NE) started and went three innings, allowing four hits, three runs (only one earned) and three walks while striking out one in falling to 6-20 on the year. Freshman Jasey Goedeken (Columbus, NE) tossed three scoreless innings with four hits and two strikeouts appearing on her ledger. Bergman was the lone Coyote to have a multi-hit game by going 2-3 with her solo homer.
The nightcap was scoreless through three innings, but Morningside went ahead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, and added three insurance runs in the fifth for the final margin of victory.
Bergman had her second multi-hit game of the day by going 2-3. Freshman pitcher Brittany Donohue (St. Paul, MN) started and lasted 4-1/3 innings, giving up five runs (four earned) along with seven hits and one walk while striking out two. Goedeken went the final 1-2/3 frames, scattering one hit and two walks while keeping her shutout streak intact.
