VLP receives award

The Vermillion Literary Project (VLP), a student organization at The University of South Dakota, received the 2007 South Dakota Board of Regents Award for Academic Excellence. According to the Board of Regents, "The purpose of this award is to recognize student organizations for outstanding contributions to the academic environment at their university or to the academic performance of students." This is the third time the VLP has received this award, having earned it in 1997 and 2003 as well.

The VLP, formed in 1982, publishes an annual literary magazine, hosts monthly poetry slams (competitions for poets) year-round, runs a creative writers' camp for high school students, and hosts events such as an annual three-hour short story contest and a poetry festival.
