The University of South Dakota senior women's golfer Amanda Young (Mitchell) has been selected to play in the upcoming NCAA Division II North Regional as an individual participant. The 54-hole regional, which will be hosted by Upper Iowa University, will start on Monday, April 30, and conclude on Wednesday, May 2, at Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo, IA .
Young is one of three individuals selected to play in the field, joining Erin Oakland of Southwest Minnesota State and Kelly Godwin of Concordia-St. Paul. The six teams picked to participate in the regional are Augustana, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota, Truman State, Winona State and host Upper Iowa. The top two teams along with the top two remaining individual finishers will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships to be held May 9-12 in Pensacola, FL.
A 2006 All-North Central Conference Second Team selection, Young was the top USD finisher in five out of six events this spring, including earning medalist honors at the Upper Iowa Spring Classic on April 9-10.
This will be Young's second consecutive trip to regionals. Last year, Young finished in a tie for 18th-place by shooting an 83-80-88 – 251 at the regional meet held at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion.
