Jamie Parish and Lori Jerred of Vermillion, who coached the Tanagers to the Class A girls' title, were named the Region VI Head and Assistant Coaches of the Year. Jerred shared regional honors with Menno's Ken Bruckner.
This is Parish's fourth different Coach of the Year award in the last three seasons and Jerred's first after only one year on staff. Parish was also named as a finalist for the SDHSAA Coach of the Year that was awarded to Mark Senftner of Class B Champion Sully Buttes last week.
"I am extremely honored to receive this award. It's really a credit to the assistants and kids that have worked so hard to make our program successful. Without their relentless efforts I wouldn't be receiving this type of recognition," Parish said.
"It is also very special for me to see Lori recognized by our peers. I know how hard she and Nick Mayer both work for our kids. They put in countless hours of their free time to open the gym, meet with our girls, and all the little things that make our program work. I really appreciate their efforts and am so happy to see that other coaches in our region have noticed their hard work."
