Winter wheat growers in southeastern South Dakota are invited to a special "in-the-field" workshop on wheat disease management. The 60-minute clinic will be held Friday, May 25, at 1 p.m., at Al Fenner's, Menno.
The field is on 290th Street (one mile west of Highway 81). From the junction of highways 18 and 81, go four miles south and one mile west. The field is on the north side of the road.
Jeff Stein, assistant professor of plant pathology at South Dakota State University, with emphasis on wheat diseases, along with local Extension agronomy educators Steve Sutera, Matt Bernau and Connie Strunk will conduct the workshop. They will provide information on wheat growth stages, disease identification and management.
Field and weather conditions have been favorable for a number of diseases like tan spot, rust, and powdery mildew. What is the potential for scab? Take a short break from your busy field schedule and find out how to manage wheat diseases this season. Refreshments will be provided.
