Members of Vermillion's second grade hold up posters of the 50 United States of America as they sang patriotic songs during their concert, held Monday, May 14, in the Vermillion High School Auditorium. At the conclusion of the concert, the students gathered a free will monetary collection of $656.06 that will be sent to "Bring Home Sgt. Cory Briest" campaign. Pictured, from left, are Logan Peterson, Isaiah Galbavy, Shevy Barber, Zeke Robinson, Kalista Wells, Myles Lineberry, Baily Mann, Haily Doty and Braiden Tucker. Briest, a member of the Yankton-based Charlie Battery of the 1st Battalion, 147th Field Artillery, received extensive injuries December 2005 in a roadside bombing in Baghdad. He currently receives treatment at a California facility, and the funds raised by the students will help construct a home for the Briest family in Yankton.
