Tanagers compete at Howard Wood Memorial

On Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5, the Tanager track and field teams joined a contingent of nearly 3,000 participants entered in the annual Howard Wood Memorial Track Meet held in Sioux Falls. In spite of the top notch competition and less than favorable weather conditions, Vermillion had some awesome results.

In the A girls' division, the results of Tanager individual and relay teams were: In the distance runs – 3200M, Lydia Ford had a State qualifying

time (12:06.92).

The girls' 4x100M relay team (Alexa Walker, Karissa Martin, Annie Roche, and Alicia Brown) placed fourth with a time 52.8. In the 4x200M, the team of Walker, Roche, Brown, and Sarah Day placed second with a 1:50.53 time.

The medley relay team (Walker, Roche, Brown, and Day) won with a VHS school record and a State qualifying time of 4:20.48.

In the A boys' division, Bobby Dykstra placed fifth in the high jump with a 6'1" height.

The Tanager 4x200M relay team (Jerrod Freidel, Ryan Powell, Dan Storm, and Broc Gauer) placed sixth with a time of 1:36.98.
