Tanagers take second and third at Dakota Valley invite
Monday, April 30, a contingent of seven girls' teams and eight boys' teams from a three state area participated in the rescheduled Dakota Valley Track Invitational held at the McCook Lake sports facility in North Sioux City. VHS was represented by a complete roster in both the girls' and boys' divisions. South Sioux City won the meet by beating Vermillion by one point (118-117).

Iindividual Tanager placers were: Alicia Brown – first in the long jump (16' 2 1/2"); Annie Roche and Kayla Gayle – fifth and sixth in the high jump. In the 300M hurdles, Anna Moos placed sixth. In the dashes – Karissa Martin, Hannah Nehlich-Arobba, and Kayla Munger placed second, fourth, and sixth in the 100M; Alexa Walker and Karrisa Martin went third and fourth in the 200M; and Brown won the 400M (58.1) as Sara Day placed second.

Lydia Ford was second in the 800M run; and won the 1600M (5:46.3); Emily Renner was third in the 3200M run.


Several Tanager girls' relay teams placed in the meet: The 4x400M relay team was first and met the state qualifying time of 4:08.3 (Day, Walker, Roche, and Brown); third place was claimed by the medley relay team – (Hannah and Sophie Nehlich-Arobba, Munger, and Brandi Blue Arm); Tanager teams entered in the 4×100 – (Hannah Korcuska, Alexa Walker, Annie Roche and Karissa Martin) (fourth place); the 4x200M relay team placed third (Hannah and Sophie Nehlich-Arobba, Munger, and Martin); Vermillion won the 4x800M relay (10:57.4) (Nehlich-Arobba, Nehlich-Arobba, Jana Bye, and Blue Arm); The medley relay team placed third (Hannah, Sophie, Munger, and Blue Arm).

South Sioux City and Dakota Valley were first and second with 122 and 104.33 points respectively, while the Tanagers finished in third with 94.83 in the boys' division.

Placing in the field events for the Tanagers were: Wyatt Hunter – fifth in the discus; and Bobby Dykstra – first in the high jump with a height 6' 3".

Jeff Donnelly won both the 110M hurdles (15.9) and 300M hurdles (42.2); Brad Orr placed 5th in the 110 hurdles.

Running events had Roland Osao first and Greg Anderson finishing fifth in the 100M dash; Ryan Powell, Osao, and Jerrod Freidel finished second, third, and six, in that order for the 200M dash.

Casey Carlson placed fifth in the 800M and 1600M runs, as Broc Gauer finished fourth in the 1600M.

The 4×100 relay team of (Roland OsaoOpango, Freidel, Dan Storm, and Anderson) were second, while the foursome (Freidel, Storm, Gauer, and Powell) won the 4x200M (1:35.5); The 1600M relay team of (Storm, Michael Oberle, Dalton Brandt, and Carlson) were in fifth place; and the medley relay team was third (Freidel, Gauer, Storm and Powell).
