USD announces assistant athletic director to resign

The University of South Dakota Director of Athletics Joel Nielsen announced Assistant Athletic Director for Communications Shane Drahota has resigned from his current position effective Friday, May 18, to accept a post as a marketing and public relations strategist in the USD Marketing & Relations Office starting on Monday, May 21. A search for Drahota's replacement will begin immediately.

"Shane quickly established himself as a valued member of our staff and was instrumental in establishing new initiatives within his area," said Nielsen. "While it's difficult to lose such a member from the staff, The University is fortunate to still have him on campus working in the marketing and relations area."

Drahota joined the Coyote athletic department in July of 2006 after previously serving as the assistant director of athletic communications at Minnesota State University. While at USD, he oversaw the athletic department's media relations, marketing, promotions, ticket sales and community relations efforts.

"While I am excited for this opportunity to take on a new challenge in my life, it does come with mixed feelings," said Drahota. "I will miss many aspects of working in collegiate athletics and specifically within the Coyote athletic department. However, the desire to do something different professionally with my life was too strong to deny. Still, I think the position I am leaving behind is a terrific opportunity, and I have absolute faith that an extremely qualified person will step into this role and give it the dedication and vision it requires as the Coyotes make the transition into Division I."
