Bridge construction to commence

The Building Yankton Bridge Committee announced the groundbreaking ceremony for the Discovery Bridge. Committee Chair, Jim Black, said the ceremony would be held on July 4, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will be held near 2nd and Broadway in Yankton.

Terry Crandall will serve as the master of ceremonies. Committee member, Bob Cappel, said the event is a good kick off for many exciting events planned for July 4.

The bridge construction contract has been awarded to Jensen Construction Company of Des Moines.

Work on the $24 million contract will begin in early June.
