"I'm pretty surprised by this but I'm also very honored to receive this award," said Knutson, who thanked her coworkers and the faculty of the Beacom School of Business for their support. "I'm fortunate in my position here to work with so many great people."
Knutson was nominated for the award by Rhonda Hulkonen, Ed.D., assistant dean, Student Services Center at the Beacom School of Business. Hulkonen noted Knutson's work ethic and her ability to work so well with the university community, particularly students and faculty.
"All of us here in the Beacom School of Business know that we are extremely privileged to have Denise working with us," Hulkonen explained. "Her attention to detail and her willingness to do what needs to be done to make the system work for the students should be applauded by the university community."
Her duties at the Beacom School of Business include managing student records, assisting faculty advisers and clarifying complex issues relating to degree requirements for faculty advisers.
An employee at The University of South Dakota since 1989, Knutson has worked all but one year for the School of Business. Her first year on campus she also had the opportunity of working with students in the admissions office.
"In all of my positions at USD, I've worked with students. They're just a lot of fun and they keep you young," she joked.
A lifelong resident of Vermillion, Knutson and her husband, Tom, farm just outside of Vermillion.
