The Vermillion Tanagers U-19 girls' – team comprised of players from Beresford, Elk Point, Dakota Valley, Gayville and Vermillion – finished third in bracket play at the Kohl's Tournament hosted in Sioux Falls.
"The girls played very well. I was very pleased will their play during the tournament. We lost against a tough Yankton team preventing us to the Championship match. We had all around good play from the whole team," coach Dave LaCombe said.
Cori Bonte lead the team with 6 total goals; Margaret Mueller and Sophie Nehlich-Arobba tied with four goals each; and Emily Gamm had one. Micaela Telleria and Margaret both led the team with three assists. Megan Bottolfson had one assist. Krista Froke, first-time goalie had 14 saves during the tournament.
"We outscored our opponents 15 to 10. I am happy with that," coach LaCombe said. "Our defense was led by Nicola Obeney, Sam Massey, Casey North, Jessica Hirsch, and Alison Gamm. Other solid performances were made by midfielders Lacy Leichtnam, striker Stacy Kjelden and Hannah Nehlich-Arobba."
