The University of South Dakota Dance Marathon was honored with two awards at the National Dance Mar-athon Leadership Conference in Kansas City, MO, earlier this month.
The USD Dance Marathon, which is the largest student-run philanthropic organization on campus, received awards for Most Unique Fundraiser and Best Closing Ceremony. "Our closing ceremony consists of recognizing the wonderful families that are present at the marathon," stated Holly Mueller, program coordinator, Student Activities Center at USD. "We al-so include recognition of students that received special awards during the marathon. The total amount of money that was raised was also presented during the closing ceremony."
Each year, the USD Dance Marathon hosts a campus "roof sit." This spring, the dance marathon committee was perched on the roof of the Beacom School of Business and raised more than $1,000 in one day for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN). Combined with the amount of money raised by the dance marathon event, the USD Dance Marathon raised $38,000 for CMN in 2007. Since its first year at USD in 1997, the Dance Marathon organization has raised more than $230,000 for CMN.
