Fertility management field day is Aug. 2 at SE Experiment Farm
The National Resources Conservation Service and the South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service, along with other agencies, will host a Fertility Management, Manure Application and Biofilter Field Day at 9 a.m. Aug. 2, at the Southeast South Dakota Experiment Farm, Beresford.

The event gives producers opportunities to learn how to calibrate manure spreaders and calculate application rates to maximize crop yield and profitability.

Side-by-side comparisons of manure spreaders with both horizontal and vertical beaters will be part of the demonstration, along with low-disturbance injection systems, GPS technology, and odor-reducing biofilters.

South Dakota State University specialists will share research on the effects of manure on crop production. The event is free. Local conservation districts will sponsor a lunch.

The deadline to register for the event is July 27 and those interested in taking part can call 605-996-1564, ext. 5, or e-mail john.lentz@sd.usda.gov.

The farm is located six miles west and three miles south of Beresford.
