"This is exciting news for South Dakota. Masaba is an excellent example of the kind of business that will help our economy grow," Benda said. "Jerad and his team are outstanding ambassadors for our state and we are pleased they have decided to grow in South Dakota."
Since relocating from Akron, IA, in July of 2005, Masaba, Inc. has continued to experience tremendous growth, success, and increased demand for its quality products.
"We're really excited toexpand our business and be able to continue to fulfill our mission," said Jerad Higman, president of Masaba, "of providing the best service and manufacturing the highest quality mining, agricultural, and customized equipment on the market.
"We've had great partnerships and experiences in South Dakota, and specifically in Vermillion," Higman added. "We have a good team of people in place and we're looking forward to expanding that team and our operations. We'd like to thank Gov. Rounds and all those involved at the state and local level for their commitment and efforts to make this project possible," he added.
The expansion will add approximately 60,000 square feet onto Masaba's current 100,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility. Masaba currently has 60 full-time employees in Vermillion, and expects to create up to 120 additional jobs during the next several years.
Lisa Ketcham, executive director of the Vermillion Chamber of Commerce and Development Company, said Masaba is a wonderful addition to the community.
"We are excited about this expansion and Masaba's future growth and what it will mean for our community, the region, and for all of South Dakota," she said. "Representatives from Masaba, the South Dakota Governor's Office of Economic Development, the city of Vermillion, the Vermillion Chamber of Commerce and Development Company, Clay County, and others have worked together as a team to make this expansion project a reality.
"This is an exciting time for everyone," she said.
"Masaba has rapidly proven to be an outstanding corporate citizen in Vermillion," said Mayor Dan Christopherson. "Building on its long-standing tradition of quality, integrity, innovation and a great business vision, we are extremely proud to be the site for Masaba's pending expansion.
"Congratulations to Jerad Higman and his team for managing a top-notch company and designing and producing a product line with great acceptance in their industry," Christopherson said.
