Stingers win Rapid City Invitational

Vermillon's Stingers traveled to Rapid City last weekend, June 23 and 24, as they entered a softball tournament. They swept away all the 16U teams going 5-0 against the field. Jenny Bye has become "Iron Maiden" of the Stingers, pitching every game in the previous eight games and then all five games in the tournament.

Game #1 was against the RC Stingrays, an 11-6 win.

Jenny recorded 8 Ks, while giving up 10 hits and no walks. Brittany Bye was 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs; Molly LeCates was 1 for 3, 1 run; Chelsea Houska � 2 runs; Donica Crichton went 2 for 4, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Jenny Bye � 1 for 3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs; Ali Truhe � 3 for 3, 1 run, 1 RBI; Ashley Ouellette � 1 for 3, 1 run, 1 RBI.

In the second game, the Stingers faced the RC Boltz in an 11-2 blow away.

Jenny Bye claimed the victory, giving up 3 hits while recording 6 Ks and a base on balls.

Offensive stats in the five-inning game included 4 walks, 2 hit batters, and 3 hits in the first inning, leading to 8 runs. Truhe was 1 for 3, 1 run; LeCates � 1 for 2, 2 runs, 1 RBI; and Anna Erickson � 1 for 1, 2 runs, 2 RBIs; Crichton, Houska, Jenny and Brittany Bye each scored a run without benefit of a hit.

In the third game against RC Psyclones, Jenny Bye was again the winning pitcher with a shutout no-hitter in the five-inning time-constrained game.

Game #4 pitted the Stingers vs. Silver Blue, another shut-out win for Jenny Bye, who gave up 1 hit while recording 9 Ks.

The championship game was a return confrontation against the Stingrays and was a six-inning 2-0 shut-out win by Jenny, who surrendered 4 hits and struck out 9 batters.
