The board members discussed a wide variety of topics including short and long term goals; increasing its use of community volunteers; and effective fund raising. Powell also emphasized the need to be pro-active in fulfilling its mission of "Giving Together To Build A Stronger Community."
Board members attending the meeting included: Mary Merrigan of Sanford Medical Center and United Way board president; Deb Christensen, Bank of the West and board vice-president; Dan Kenton, Pamida, board secretary and treasury; Lisa Ketcham, Vermillion Chamber of Commerce and Development Company; Cathy Colwell, SESDAC; Marlyn Harnois, retired; Laura Hollingsworth, First Dakota National Bank; Marcia Harnois, University of South Dakota; Tom Stogsdill, USD Foundation; Ginnie Talley, Vermillion Public School District; Art Mabry, city of Vermillion; Don Dahlin, University of South Dakota;
Robert Fuller, United Way executive director.
Board members Bruce King and Jon Robertson were unable to attend.
"We had a very productive and inspiring meeting," Merrigan said. "And, as a result we have a board of directors that are even more committed to working together to serve Vermillion and the surrounding area.
"We have an outstanding board of directors and we all are very excited about the future for the United Way of Vermillion and the community," she said.
