USD professor, St. Agnes teacher receive book award

Gera Jacobs, a professor of early childhood education at The University of South Dakota, and Kathy Crowley, a kindergarten teacher at St. Agnes School in Vermillion, were honored with the Distinguished Achievement Award by the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) for their book Play, Projects, and Preschool Standards.

Published by Corwin Press out of Thousand Oaks, CA, Play, Projects, and Preschool Standards won the award for best teacher resource in the professional development books category. The Distinguished Achievement Awards, which recognize the best educational materials by subject category and audience, were announced last month at the AEP annual awards banquet and gala in Washington, DC.

"We hope the book will be a valuable resource for all those working with children 3 to 5 years of age," said Jacobs, Ed.D.

Jacobs taught for 16 years in preschool through eighth grade classrooms.
