Rapid City Watiki Wild 3
The Blaze started the tourney rocking the bats. In the first inning, the Blaze scored 15 runs. Sam Girard hit a double and a triple, Courtney Johnson had a double, Elizabeth Bye and Shelby Christopherson each added two doubles, and Blair Gilkyson and Tory McCreary each hit two singles.
Beth Szymonski and Emily McClelland each scored four times, but Lexi Regnerus was smoking with two singles and two home runs, one being a grand slam.
Morgan Hueser was the winning pitcher for the Blaze, giving up only two hits and striking out two.
Colorado Psyclones 1
The Blaze had a slow start but by the third inning, the bats got hot. Johnson started the three run rally with a double. Szymonski added two doubles and a single.
Girard, McCreary, Hueser and Sabrina Rasmussen all had hits in the game.
Bye was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits and striking out 10.
Gillette, WY 1
In game three of pool play, the Blaze faced the Gillette, WY team.
The Blaze came to play ball, outscoring Gillette 9-1. Bye was the winning pitcher for the Blaze, giving up only two hits and striking out 12 of 17 batters.
Girard, McCreary, and Rory Tucker all hit singles, while Rasmussen had a double. Regnerus added a triple and base hit.
"I am so proud of the girls," said coach Shelly Bye. "They have been working hard all season and deserve these wins."
The Blaze ended pool play 3-0, allowing only five runs and scoring 46.
Rapid City Flames 6
By winning their pool, the Blaze earned a bye in the first round of the tournament. In the next game, they took on the Rapid City Flames. The Blaze needed a win to make it to the championship game.
Girard started the game with a single and McCreary, Bye, and Regnerus all followed, scoring four runs in the first inning.
"Our defense played well until the fourth inning when the Flames scored four runs," said coach Bye. "The girls held it together and fought hard at the end."
The Blaze won by a score of 10-6. Bye and McCreary shared pitching duties.
Billings, MT 12
In the championship game, the Blaze played a very talented Billings, MT team.
This team had not been scored on all weekend, so that was the Blaze team's first goal.
It happened in the second inning when Regnerus hit a single and Rasmussen got on after that.
The Bulldogs made a couple of throwing errors, allowing both runners to score.
The Billings team ended up outscoring the Blaze to win the championship.
"I am very proud of the girls," said coach Bye. "They played hard and never quit. Each one gave her all."
