Unfortunately, things did n't work out the way they had hoped for.
Post #1 faced Chamberlain Post #3 in the first (10 a.m.) game.
|
Line stats: Chamberlain – 5 R, 8 H, 0 E, 5 LOB; Post # 1 – 4 R, 11 H, 4 E, 10 LOB.
Zach Weiss lost the 9inning stint, as errors were the contributing factor when 2 unearned runs were recorded.
Offensive stats: Cory Taggart – 1 for 4; Weiss – 1 for 5, 1 run; Reid Meirkort – 4 for 4 (including 2 homers), 4 runs, 3 RBIs; Jeff Donnelly – 2 for 3, 1 RBI; JR Moore – 2 for 4; Jerrod Freidel – 1 for 4.
Game #2 ( losers bracket) – pitted Vermillion vs. arch rival West Central.
Line totals: WC – 14 R, 12 H, 2 E, 15 LOB; Vermillion – 6 R, 13 H, 7 E, 4 LOB.
JR Moore started and went 4 1/3 innings giving up 5 runs on 5 hits and was charged with the loss. Jeff Donnelly relieved and went 1 inning, giving up 3 runs on 1 hit. Kyle Olsen pitched 2 2/3 innings being hit for 2 runs on 3 singles. Zach Weiss
cleaned up for the final inning and gave up 4 runs on 3 hits.
Needless to say, errors were more numerous than points for Post #1. It was apparent that the fellas were trying too hard, and eventually the pitchers ran out of gas.
Vermillion offense: Taggart – 1 for 4, 1 run; Weiss – 2 for 5, 1 run, 1 RBI; Meirkort – 3 for 5, 1 run, 1 RBI; Donnelly – 1 for 4; Eric McPherson – 2 for 5; Brandon Womack – 1 for 2, 1 run, 1 RBI; Freidel – 1 for 4 (a homerun), 2 runs, 2 RBIs.
If you include the VHS schedule, the baseball season covered six months of participation by the players on the Post #1 team. VHS had a 12-10 season, and Post #1 finished at 19 wins, 17 losses.
