Vermillion Community Theatre is bringing the classic Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera, The Pirates of Penzance, to the stage at the Vermillion High School Theatre. Performances will be Friday, Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. and Monday, Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
The Pirates of Penzance has delighted audiences since it was first performed in 1879. It is popular for its lively tunes and clever, intricate lyrics. The Modern Major General song is one of the best known in musical theatre. This production is directed by Rusty Ruth with musical direction by Erin Conlon and is the first main stage production by the Understudies of the Vermillion Community Theatre. The Understudies are young actors of high school and middle school ages assisted by key adult performers. Previous Understudies productions include You're a Good Man Charlie Brown and Much Ado About Nothing.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and no charge for children under 5. Tickets are available at the Nook 'n Cranny, Davis Pharmacy, Hy-Vee and at the door.
