The March of Dimes 2007 Jail & Bail will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Vermillion. Business leaders and other citizens will be voluntarily arrested, booked and jailed in this fundraiser benefiting the March of Dimes. They will be fingerprinted, have mug shots taken and go before a judge for sentencing before being locked up.
Jailbirds will then spend an hour behind bars phoning family, friends and co-workers to raise bail in the form of contributions to the March of Dimes' South Dakota Chapter. The March of Dimes mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
Valiant Vineyard Winery, 1500 W. Main St., Vermillion will serve as the jail.
Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies and in 2003 launched a seven-year campaign to address the increasing rate of premature birth.
