Tanager volleyball defeats Bon Homme at home
On Tuesday, Sept. 4, Vermillion hosted varsity, junior varsity and freshman combined matches of Tanager volleyball, in the VHS main gymnasium.

The Tanager varsity team won 25-16, 25-23, 25-5.

Tanager player statistical results: Raychel Lorenz – 25 set assists, 2 digs, 1 ace; Alicia Brown – 13 kills, 18 digs, 2 blocks; Tania Faria – 5 kills, 1 block, 10 set assists ; Jenny Bye – 1 ace, 8 kills, 2 blocks; Brittany Bye – 5 kills, 1 block.


Coach Lenni Billberg evaluated the Tanager varsity's early season record of 3 – 0.

"Great way to start our first home opener. The girls really handled the slower tempo of the Cavaliers. We finally closed our defensive holes. Alicia played like a vacuum cleaner, in the back row, sucking up every ball that came her way."

The JV team won 2-1, scoring 25-21, 23-25, 15-12.

Assistant coach Jamie Baedke said, "We played much better – a positive turn to a great season ahead." Statistics: Justine Sorensen – 4 kills, 3 blocks; Sara Kjose – 5 set assists, 5 aces; Brianna Brinkman – 18 digs.

The freshman team lost 1- 2 scoring 17-25, 25-20, 13-15.

Assistant coach Chris Doty said, "Our play is much improved tonight! The girls are coming together as a team and starting to communicate."
