Vermillion volleyball starts season with wins

In a triangular meet involving Todd County, Vermillion and Lennox, the Tanager volleyball team came away with a 2-0 season opening success.

Held in Lennox on Aug. 28, the scores of the first match between Lennox and Todd County was 16-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-8 in favor of the home standing Orioles.

Vermillion also defeated Todd County 25-12, 25-4, 25-23.

Tanager player statistical results include Raychel Lorenz – 10 assists, 3 digs; Alexa Walker – 10 digs; Alicia Brown – 5 kills, 10 digs, 4 blocks; Tania Faria – 5 kills, 6 assists; Hannah Korkuska – 5 digs; Brittany Bye – 3 digs.

The Tanagers were also victorious in their match with the Orioles. Scores were 25-7, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19.

Winning statistics were: Lorenz – 14 set assists, 4 digs; Korcuska – 5 digs; Walker – 13 digs; Brown – 5 kills, 12 digs, 3 blocks; Kayla Gale – 7 kills; Faria – 7 kills, 11 set assist, 6 digs, 3 blocks; Bye – 4 kills, 3 blocks.
