It won't be vacant for long.
"I plan to build a strip mall there called Hallmark Square," he said.
The new structure will have an area of approximately 8,500 square feet. It will be built in two separate sections.
"I want to get the foundation in before the first of November so we can work on it in the wintertime," Larry said. "That's the goal right now."
The parking lot of the new building will be built later.
"The footings over there at Morse's Market were quite deep, and it's going to take awhile to pack that ground back down enough so that we don't have to worry about the concrete (of the parking lot) shifting."
Larry said the building will be finished and ready for occupancy, perhaps as early as April 15, and no later than May 1 of next year.
He owns two other strip malls along Cherry Street. "This will be a little smaller than those two," Larry said, "but it will be nicer looking. It will have a little bit more design on the front of it."
The new strip mall, he said, will house service and retail-type businesses.
Larry said his business partner, Lowell Cook of Cook Construction, will be the general contractor for the project. He added that he intends to rely on local talent as much as possible – including plumbers, electricians and concrete suppliers – to serve as subcontractors.
"It will be 90 percent, at least, local," Larry said. "It's going to be exciting – it's going to be a very, very nice-looking building, with stucco on the outside."
