Girls' teams qualified: first- Elk Point/Jefferson (43); second- West Central (45); third- Vermillion (57).
Tanager girls' places were: Lydia Ford – first (15:27); Blair Gilkyson – fifth (16:06); Beth Szymonski – 21st; Celeste Sawyer – 30th; Jana Bye – 47th; and Emily Renner – 48th.
Coach Kelly Fischbach comments, "I was very proud of the way all the girls stepped up today. The team competition was very close, so it was important for each girl to do what they did. Lydia took control of the race early on, and was never really challenged. Blair had a great race as well, passing a Beresford runner at the end, which was important for the team standings. Beth stepped up big in her third varsity race, and just missed qualifying individually. Celeste finished strong to keep that margin we needed for the team standings."
Note: In the JV race, Cassie Donahoe was 13th (19:11).
The winner of the Boys division was Brian Wilcox (SFC) (16:42).
Tanager boys' places were: Casey Carlson – seventh (17:38); Broc Gauer – 17th (18:12); Brad Orr – 22nd; J. R. Moore – 26th: Ryan Angelo 28th;and Alex Card – 38th.
Coach comments, "The boys ran great as a team. Casey finished just where he usually does. The next four runners all were close together, which made the difference. I'm very proud of all these kids".
