Next, the Southeast Area VB Classic was held in Elk Point, on Sept. 22 with matches between Milbank, Harrisburg, and Tea Area, each vs Vermillion. The Tanagers won the Milbank match 3-2 (13-25, 25-23, 25-6, 16-25, 17-15.
Coach Billberg said, "A great match for our Tanagers – defeating the number-one team in the state can really make a season. Our girls hung together to out-defend, out-hit and out-block the towering Milbank ladies."

The Harrisburg match also went five games (30-28, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22, and 11-15) for a Tanager heart-stopping loss. "A tough loss, but we showed the Tanagers can compete against anyone. Defense will continue to be our way to success," Billberg said.

Coach Billberg evaluated the team's performances: "After a great start, we simply ran out of gas; we showed we are a dominant team, but need a little more depth and finish (if we wish) to continue our path toward (being) one of South Dakota's best."
