Abby Doorn and Amber Luitjens both had top-10 finishes to lead The University of South Dakota women's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Sioux Women's Golf Invitational, which concluded on Monday in Grand Forks, ND. As a team, the Coyotes shot a combined total of 657 (323-334) at the competition, which included 11 teams and 64 participants.
Doorn (Fr., Spencer, IA) and Luitjens (Sr., Aberdeen) both shot scores of 159 and tied for 10th in the individual standings. Doorn shot rounds of 77 and 82, while Luitjens had scores of 78 and 81 during the two-day tournament held on the par 72, 5,867-yard King's Walk Golf Course. Other USD results included Andrea Peterson (Sr., Austin, MN), 24th, 84-83-167; Brooke Bonte (Sr., Beresford), 45th, 88-88-176; Erin Wibben (So., Rock Rapids, IA), 56th, 98-98-196; Candice Bonrud (So., Burnsville, MN), 84-DNC; and Stephanie Zavilla (So., Highlands Ranch, CO), 85-DNC.
Next for the South Dakota women's golf team will be the NCC Championships on Oct. 6-8 in Sioux Falls.
