For the third time in 2007, sophomore Ramsey Kavan of The University of South Dakota women's cross country team has received the North Central Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement by the league office on Tuesday morning.
Kavan, of Yankton, won the individual title in convincing fashion at the Roy Griak Invitational held on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Les Bolstad Golf Course at the University of Minnesota. Kavan, who won the women's Division II competition in 22:08.1, led the USD women to a 19th-place finish (479 points) in the team standings. It was Kavan's second individual title in three outings this season as her time was nearly 32 seconds ahead of second-place Rachel Stangler of Augustana, who finished in 22:40.1.
Earlier this year, Kavan received the NCC weekly honor on Sept. 18 after finishing fourth at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational meet in Lincoln, NE. She also received the NCC honor on Sept. 11 after winning an individual title at the Don Baker Invitational at USD.
