VHS softball suffers DH loss
It was a sorrowful Sunday as the Tanagers' softball team lost a closely scored doubleheader in games played in Hartford against West Central on Sept. 23.

The scores were 2-0 in seven innings, and 5-4 in extra innings, for the Lady Trojans.

Game #1 – Jenny Bye pitched a one-hitter through five innings, striking out five batters before the lead-off gal singled and scored on a triple by the #3 batter and the cleanup batter drove in the last run. The Tanagers had only two hits.

Line score: VHS – 0 R, 2 H, 1 E, 3 LOB; WCHS – 2 R, 5 H, 0 E, 4 LOB, Kayla .

Game #2 – Brianna Brinkman pitched the first four innings, striking out three batters, giving up three runs on six hits. Bye relieved and gave up a run when an error was committed with a girl on third base. That run tied the score, since the Tanagers built a four-run lead prior to the middle of the fifth inning. The tie remained through the seventh. West Central placed a runner on second base (the extra-inning rule) and the batter hit a single, driving in the winning run.

Tanager offense: Kayla Mumer – 1 of 2, one run; Jenny Bye – 2 for 4, one run, one RBI; Donica Chrichton – 2 for 4, one run; Katie Kashas – 2 for 4; Brianna Brinkman – 2 for 4, one RBI.

"A bitter pill to take," said coach Lori Jerred.
