Marjorie Klemme Flados grew up near spink and graduated from Elk Point High School. She will be at the Vermillion Public Library at 18 Church St. on Wednesday, Nov. 18 to sign her book and visit with readers about the writing process, local history and her memories of the 1930s through the 1950s. The program is from 4-6 p.m.
Flados wrote the book after her early years in the Spink and Elk Point areas as she grew up on a farm. She recalls when rural neighborhoods were ethnic with their own church and pronunciation of the English language. Her book is a humorous look at the Great Depression, life on the farm and being a Norwegian. Her book covers her life from childhood to life as a professor's wife. She moved 28 times, lived in 20 cities, 10 states and the Panama Canal Zone until finally settling in Texas.
She originally wrote the book for her grandchildren because she was always able to find joy in life, even when times were difficult. She wanted the grandchildren to be able to understand what it was like growing up.
If you are unable to attend and would like a copy of the book, it can be purchased through www.AuthorHouse .com or by calling 1-800-839-8640.
