Nebraska-Omaha defeats USD women's volleyball team, 3-0
Carlie Christensen had a match-high 24 kills to lead Nebraska-Omaha to a 3-0 (32-30, 30-19, 30-27) decision over The University of South Dakota women's volleyball team in North Central Conference action on Friday night at the DakotaDome.

The Coyotes dropped to 18-6 overall and 3-4 in NCC play. The Mavericks evened their NCC mark at 4-4 while improving its overall record to 12-8. With the loss, the Coyotes fell short of its attempt to set a school record for wins in a season.

USD was led by junior Laura Slagter (Jr., Roseville, MN) who recorded her ninth double-double of the season. Slagter had 14 kills on 34 attacks and hit .294 while also contributing 14 digs. Senior Ashley Gross (Norfolk, NE) had 13 kills on 38 attacks. USD received 39 set assists from sophomore setter Gina Baldwin (Mitchell) who also had 17 digs. Junior libero Amber Kobus (Jr., NE) had 17 digs which moved her to third on USD's all-time career digs list with 1,360.


Overall, the Coyotes hit .189 with 53 kills on 159 attacks and 23 errors. USD also had 44 set assists, four service aces, 75 digs and four total team blocks. UNO's Carlie Christensen hit .622 for the match with 24 kills on 37 attacks. Ellen Thommes also reached double digits in kills with 10. UNO hit .303 for the match with 57 kills on 152 attacks and just 11 errors.

UNO rallied from an eight-point deficit (7-15) to win game one by a 32-30 score. USD, which hit .196 (19K-8E-56A), led 28-26, before the Mavericks ended the game on a 6-2 run for the win. Christensen led UNO with nine kills as she hit .562. UNO had a .269 hitting percentage (19K-5E-62A) in game one.

In game two, UNO hit .326 (18K-3E-46A) in rolling to a 30-19 victory. The Mavericks jumped to a 7-1 lead as Christensen had two kills. UNO upped its advantage to 18-6 before USD had an 8-3 run to close to 21-14. However, UNO finished the game on a 9-5 run for the victory. Christensen had eight kills to lead UNO in game two. The Coyotes hit just .091 with 12 kills on 44 attacks and eight errors.

The Mavericks closed out the match with a 30-27 decision in game three as UNO hit .315 (20K-5E-54A). The Coyotes improved its offense by hitting .254 (22K-7E-59A). In the final game, the two teams exchanged leads five times with 11 tie scores. With the game deadlocked at 13-13, UNO outscored the Coyotes, 9-5, to grab a 22-18 advantage. From that point, they moved to a 29-24 lead before the Coyotes scored three straight points to draw within 29-27. Christensen, who had seven kills and hit .500, had a kill at game point to end the match. Slagter led the Coyotes in game three with seven kills on 10 attacks and hit .700.
