October students of the month named
Garrett Jepsen and Samantha DeVries were named as the Vermillion High School October students of the month. First Bank & Trust provides scholarships to two seniors each month that have been nominated by the VHS faculty.

Jepsen "is active in Science Olympiad and Science Club. He has great ideas for activities and always is ready for a challenge," according to his faculty recommendation. His parents are Scott and Jeanne Jepsen, and he plans on pursuing a meteorology degree in college.

His abundance of activities include National Honor Society, 4-H, Young Democrats, band, E-Team and Science Club. He was a Boys' State delegate and participated in the German exchange trip. He owns and manages a sheep flock.


DeVries' faculty recommendation noted that she "has been in several classes with me and always has been respectful, involved, enthusiastic, punctual, and honest." Her parents are Greg DeVries and Robin DeVries. She plans to enroll in fine arts at The University of South Dakota.

She has been involved in VHS theatre productions, Art Club and the Thespian Club as its treasurer. She received a superior rating in the one-act production of Romancers and she has been involved in the Missouri River clean up for two years. She is employed at Toby's in Meckling.
