USD women's cross country team places ninth at nationals
The University of South Dakota women's cross country team, led by All-American performances from Ramsey Kavan and Kelsey Maloney, placed ninth in the team standings at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Joplin, MO.

Kavan (Sophomore, Yankton), who placed sixth, and Maloney (Junior, Sioux Falls), who was 26th, earned All-American honors. By finishing ninth in the team standings, the Coyote women's team recorded the third-best finish in school history. The USD women's team placed sixth in 1998, eighth in 2005 and ninth in 2003.

Kavan, who had a time of 20:49.4, recorded the third-best finish ever by a Coyote women's runner. Former USD standout Molly Wedel was third in 1999 and fourth in 1998. Maloney finished 26th with a time of 21:30.9. For the third time in school history, the Coyotes had two All-Americans on the same team.

Also for the Coyotes, freshman Emma Erickson (Gayville) placed 82nd in 22:36.4 while junior Jessica Lundgren (Truman, MN) was 100th in 22:58.1. In addition, USD freshman Sarah Wickman (Iowa City, IA) was 105th in 23:05.7 and sophomore Heather Kuhlmann (Nebraska City, NE) was 163rd in 24:31.9.

Adams State won the women's team competition with 63 points followed by Seattle Pacific with 178 and Grand Valley State with 181. Jessica Pixler of Seattle Pacific captured the individual race with a clocking of 20:29.1.
