SJL, RTEC team up to offer holiday classes
Southeast Job Link and the Regional Technical Education Center are teaming up to offer a series of special community enrichment classes. The series, named Holiday Treats and Treasures, features a variety of fun and simple classes designed to fill area residents with the spirit of the season.

Classes in the Holiday Treats and Treasures series include:

  • Stitching a Mini Stocking – Learn basic hand-sewing techniques in this fun and simple class instructed by Misty Nockels of Four Seasons Fabric. You'll create a 6" mini stocking that you can turn into an ornament or fill with goodies for someone special. Children are welcome, but those 8 and younger must be accompanied by an adult helper. A supply fee will cover the cost of necessary materials, but participants will need sewing shears. The class will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10. The cost is $15 plus a $3 supply fee.

  • Holiday Cake Decorating – Practice cake-decorating techniques with Angie Schmidt, Crofton's own Mama Mech, and learn how to make traditional designs as well as penguins, snowmen and other festive shapes. Participants will need to bring a basic kit with tips and decorating bags. Bring a cake to decorate on the second night. Two separate sessions are available. Session 1 will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 10 and 11. Session 2 will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 17 and 18. The cost for either session is $25 plus a $2 supply fee.
  • Holiday Baking 101 – Learn to make perfect holiday pies, muffins special enough for Christmas morning, and microwave fudge and macadamia nut brittle fit for any sweet-loving family in this class instructed by area baking enthusiast Mary Kulish. You'll leave with all of the recipes and samples of the night's creations. Class will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12. The cost is $25.
  • Sewing a Photo Stocking – Bring your child or grandchild to this hands-on class presented by Misty Nockels of Four Seasons Fabric and watch as they try their hand at machine sewing to create a 15" line stocking complete with a photo pocket you can personalize with a snapshot or a heartfelt message. Visit Four Seasons to view samples and purchase necessary fabrics and materials. Children must be accompanied by an adult helper. Participants will need sewing shears. The class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18. The cost is $19.

All Holiday Treats and Treasures classes will be held in the Technical Education Center at 1200 W. 21st St., where both sponsoring organizations are located. For more information or to reserve your spot, please call (605) 668-3480 or (605) 668-5700 today. Don't delay! Class sizes are limited.
