The Tanagers were second with a score of 120.55. Rounding out the seven-team line up were Stanley County (117.85), Wagner (112), Chamberlain (110.1), West Central (97.45), and Kadoka (89.85).
The Tanagers started the meet on the vault, where Amber Walker's yamashita vault was almost perfect as she scored an 8.55 out of a possible 8.8. Walker's vault was good enough for a fifth place finish in the vault competition.
The Tanagers' next event was the uneven parallel bars. The Tanagers' best place finish here was Raychel Lorenz as she placed fifth with a score of 7.8. The Tanagers' had some tough luck, as the balance beam was one event where they were plagued by falls and wobbles. The best beam performance of the day for the Tanagers was Sidney Mount as she performed her season-best routine – a 7.8 which was good enough for ninth place. The best event for the Tanagers was the last event – floor exercise. Here the Tanagers took advantage of clean routines and placed three gymnasts in the top 10. Lorenz led all Tanagers as she placed third with a score of 8.05. Lorenz was followed closely by Walker (sixth – 7.75) and Elly Melby (seventh – 7.7).
"I was really pleased with our floor today," said coach Mark Upward. "We finally decided to show the judges what we can do on floor. Now we need to transfer that confidence to the rest of the events and our scores should start to go up."
The Tanagers' next see action on Friday night, Dec. 14, when Sioux Falls Roosevelt and West Central come to town. This triangular will be held at Vermillion High School in the auxillary gym. The start time is 6:15 p.m. Please come out and support your Vermillion High School gymnasts.
