USD announces football team awards at banquet
The University of South Dakota football team announced its 2007 team awards at its annual team banquet. The award recipients were highlighted by Amos Allen being named Most Valuable Player. Allen broke the school's single-season rushing record with 1,961 yards. His final rushing totals also gave him the NCAA Division II regular season rushing title. Below is a complete list of the awards announced last night.

  • Most Valuable Player – Amos Allen (Sr., Miami, FL).
  • Coach's Award – David Cronin (Sr., Holstein, IA) and Justiss Scales (Sr., Columbus, OH).

  • Offensive Player of the Year – Christian Morton (Sr., Norfolk, NE).
  • Defensive Player of the Year – John Morales (Sr., Martinez, CA).
  • Special Teams Player of the Year – Frank Leibfarth (Sr., Yankton).
  • Bulldog Award – Brooks Little (Sr., Castlewood).
  • Most Valuable Freshman – Joey White (RFr., Crooks).
  • Offensive Scout of the Year – Dante Warren (Fr., Arlington Heights, IL).
  • Defensive Scout of the Year – Shea Williams (Fr., Alexandria).

    USD finished the season with a 6-5 record overall and were 5-3 in the NCC. Of their 11 games, six were against nationally ranked teams.
