USD swimming & diving sign Elizabeth Hoffman
The University of South Dakota swimming and diving head coach Jason Mahowald has announced the signing of an Eureka standout for the 2008-09 season. Elizabeth Hoffman has signed a national letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic career at USD.

An accomplished three-year letterwinner at Eureka High School, Hoffman comes to USD as a13-year USA State Swimming champion and a USA Swimming Central Zones Champion. During her swimming career, Hoffman has set state long course meter records in the women's 17-18 year old age bracket in the 200 free, 200 back and 200 IM.

She has also set age group short course meter records in the 200 free (girls' 9-10), 400 free (girls' 11-12), 200 back (girls' 15-16); and short course yard records in the 200 free (girls' 11-12 and 13-14) as well as the 200 back (girls' 15-16).


Hoffman is a currently a member of the A honor roll and National Society of High School Scholars. She was nominated for the Presidential Leadership Award and is currently ranked first in her graduating class.

Outside of the pool and classroom, Hoffman is the reigning Miss Teen South Dakota, a member of her church's youth group, student council secretary/treasurer, school newspaper editor and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Hoffman also participates in volleyball, track and is a member of Eureka's play cast.

Elizabeth is a great person and outstanding student athlete, Mahowald said. We are extremely excited about having her join our swimming and diving family. Athletically, Elizabeth will make an immediate impact in the mid-distance free and backstroke events.
