In December, Sanford Vermillion Medical Center as well as Sanford Health employees received an annual gift of a holiday ham. Following the distribution to Sanford Health System employees, there were a number of hams remaining. Sanford Vermillion requested 17 cases (51 hams) of leftover hams for local distribution. Mary Berglin, director of the Vermillion Food Pantry was contacted to find out if the Food Pantry could distribute hams to families in the Vermillion area. The Food Pantry accepted the hams and will be able to distribute all 51 hams to homes with a need in the Vermillion area.
"We recognize the great work the Food Pantry does throughout the year. I am pleased that Sanford Vermillion and its staff can assist the Food Pantry in its mission of helping our most vulnerable citizens," said Timothy J. Tracy, CEO, Sanford Vermillion.
In addition to the contribution of holiday hams, the employee PRIDE Committee at Sanford Vermillion will conduct a food drive amongst all medical center employees in early 2008 to benefit the Vermillion Food Pantry. "Our employees recognize how vitally important the Food Pantry is for the community of Vermillion and are committed to supporting their ongoing needs. Several times throughout the year employee food drives are conducted to benefit the Food Pantry as well as monetary contributions from in-house fundraising efforts," commented Mary Merrigan, Director of Public Relations, Sanford Vermillion.
