Susan L. Richardson departed this life on Dec. 17, 2007 at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington D.C. after a two year battle with lung cancer. Susan was the wife of Scott Richardson. Susan, Scott and their daughter Claire moved from Vermillion to Alexandria, VA in 2004. Memorial services for Susan were held at the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church on Dec. 22, 2007.
Susan was born in Beaver, PA and her family later settled in Madisonville, KY where she graduated as valedictorian of her high school class. Susan's father was a doctor in Madisonville. Susan attended USC in Los Angeles, graduating summa cum laude with a bachelors degree in biology. Susan earned a second bachelors degree from UCLA in nursing and worked as a nurse at UCLA Medical Center for seven years. Susan was studying towards her MBA at Pepperdine University when she met her husband, Scott. Susan and Scott made their home in Alexandria, VA in 1992. Their daughter Claire attends St. Mary's Catholic School in Old Town Alexandria. Since the birth of Claire, Susan has been a dedicated and loving stay-at-home mother, and enjoyed volunteer work at St. Mary's School during the school year and at Mount Vernon Park during the summer.
Susan is survived by her loving husband and daughter, Scott and Claire; her mother Mrs. Sylvia Clarke of Beaver, PA; her brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Ann Clarke of Paducah, KY, and her nephew, Christopher Clarke. Susan was preceded in death by her father, Dr. James Clarke, who also died of lung cancer. Susan, a non-smoker, was diagnosed with lung cancer on January 4, 2006, which, sadly, was her forty-eighth birthday.
