On the uneven parallel bars, Elly Melby and Emily Renner tied for fourth place as they both scored a 7.5. Melby (6.7), Amber Walker (6.75), and Heather Zimmerman (7.1) placed fifth, fourth and third respectively.
The remaining top five spots for the Tanagers were taken by Walker and Melby. Walker finished the meet with a second place finish on the floor, scoring an 8.7 and a fourth place finish on the vault with an 8.2. Melby placed fourth on floor (8.2) and second on vault with an 8.45.
Walker and Melby tied for second place in the All-Around competition, both scoring a 30.85. "We hit on a lot of our routines, but we just had a difficult time pulling it together on the beam," said coach Mark Upward. "Against Madison, we actually hit all the routines and scored a 126. We will need at least that good of a performance if we hope to land the second spot at state."
The junior varsity gymnasts scored a season high 48.65, but were bested by Yankton's 76.3 points. Cassie Donahoe placed fourth in the All-Around competition with 13.95 points. Other Tanagers placing were Rory Tucker (FX), 6, second; Jade Fostvedt (FX), 5.6, fourth; Alexis Reich (FX), tied fifth; Morgan Hower (UB), 3.85, first; Ciara Zimiga (UB), 3.35, third; and Grace Olson (UB), 3.2, fifth; Hower, (V), 6, fourth.
"Most of these girls just started gymnastics this year," said Upward. "It has been great to watch them grow as gymnasts."
